One in 20 think that potatoes grow on trees.
One in 14 think parsnips also hang from branches.
One in six think mushrooms grow underground.
One in 20 think pineapples grow in the UK.
One in 10 think green beans are root vegetables.
The survey, conducted by The Mushroom Bureau, consulted 2,000 shoppers.
Forty per cent of them said they wanted to cut the carbon footprint of their food – but 75% admitted they never check labels for origin.
They say ignorance is bliss – but really?
